New Video "BREAKWALL"
"Anishinaabe singer-songwriter Ansley Simpson was the winner of the inaugural Bull’sEye competition at imagineNATIVE’s 2016 Festival. Simpson teamed up award-winning Métis filmmaker Shane Belcourt to make the first music video to create title track from her debut album “Breakwall”. This striking video braids cinematic images with lush melodies with a swelling love song between opposites that no longer attract yet can’t be separated – a wave and a breakwall."
Ansley Simpson's much anticipated debut album is now released!
Available in Digital Download and CD.
"Breakwall is a swelling, soft symphony of emotion that builds in gentle intensity over the course of the album’s nine tracks.
Standouts include the lush and winding “A Mixture of Frailties”, the transforming flow of the album’s title track “Breakwall”, and the icy ambience of album closer “Sleeping Giant”.
Sharing a deep sense of narrative power with her sister Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, Ansley’s lyrical hymns to love, presence, and possibility entwine you in an unfolding, sonic world of her own making. This is music to guide you back to the shore, when you’ve been lost too long in the waves."
"Ansley Simpson is a Toronto-based Anishinaabe singer-songwriter and inaugural winner of the BullsEye Media Emerging Artist award from ImagineNATIVE and Slaight Music. Her much anticipated debut album “Breakwall” is a gentle, powerful collection of songs that showcase her lilting vocals, clear melodic sensibility, and intricate guitar playing to moving effect. Ansley immerses the listener in a swelling, soft symphony of emotion that builds in gentle intensity over the course of the album’s nine tracks. She is a natural performer, holding audiences spellbound with her haunting vocals and poetics. “Ansley’s lyrical hymns to love, presence, and possibility entwine you in an unfolding, sonic world of her own making. This is music to guide you back to the shore, when you’ve been lost too long in the waves.” (Revolutions Per Minute
